On-The-Go Entrepreneurs Have Their Heads in the Cloud (with Mobile Broadband)
In today's fast-paced world, many entrepreneurs are taking their businesses on the road. With the introduction of mobile broadband devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs, many professionals can access their business assets from almost anywhere in the world. This means that you can still run your business and stay connected, even if you can't be in the office.
Google Docs
Many entrepreneurs are using the mobile experience to take advantage of other "on-the-go" tools, such as Google Docs. Google Docs is a free suite of office productivity tools that allows you to upload and download files that pertain to your business, and have them stored for free on Google's servers. This helps you stay current with your business (or personal) projects. Your files can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection, including when you are using mobile broadband devices.
Google Voice
Entrepreneur Tammy Tibbetts, founder of "She's the First," recommends also using Google Voice to have your voice mails forwarded to your email, allowing you to access them even if you do not have cell service.
Mobile Banking
Another mobile broadband tool that many on the go entrepreneurs are using is mobile banking. Ryan Paugh, founder of "Brazen Careerist," has recommended entrepreneurs use their mobile broadband devices to connect to branchless banks, such as Ally. By using a branchless bank, everything is conducted through the internet, email, ATM, or by phone. This is the perfect solution if you are in a town that does not have a branch of your bank. You can still use ATM, debit, and credit cards, all without having to worry about whether you can find a physical location.
Unlimited vs. Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband Service
When it comes to purchasing your mobile broadband service, it pays to shop around. Many cell service providers offer unlimited plans that allow you to connect to their mobile broadband internet sites around the globe; however, it pays to read the fine print. While these providers are using the word "unlimited," many actually throttle your data after a certain amount of usage. If this sounds like it could be a problem for you, you might want to consider a mobile broadband pay as you go plan. By using a mobile broadband pay as you go plan, you get to decide how much you pay each month based on your own usage. This can actually end up saving you money in the long run, as not everyone uses the same amount of data each month.
Mobile WiFi (MiFi)
Many on the go entrepreneurs are turning to MiFi (Mobile WiFi) devices to keep them connected while out of the office. A MiFi device functions as a portable hotspot that allows your broadband mobile device to connect from anywhere in the world. This can be a lifesaver in emergency situations. Entrepreneur Eric Bahn, founder of "Beat the GMAT," recommends using MiFi services while on the go because you can typically connect up to 5 wireless devices at a time, meaning you can use your smart phone, tablet PC, and other wireless networking devices simultaneously. This means you can set up a virtual office environment, from virtually anywhere.
The Mobile Entrepreneur's Life Just Got Easier
Google Docs, Google Voice, and mobile banking are just a few of the valuable tools you can take advantage of with a mobile broadband device. In addition, there is a lot of flexibility with the cell service providers' unlimited plans and pay as you go plans offered by various providers, as well as the recent introduction of MiFi hotspots. All of these easily accessible technologies means there is almost no limit to your ability to stay connected to the Internet – a huge benefit for the on-the-go entrepreneur.
